Protect Your SNAP Benefits from Scammers
If you receive SNAP (food stamp) benefits, be aware that scammers are actively targeting EBT cards to steal funds. Local police departments have reported tens of cases of stolen benefits in Ocean County this month alone. Unfortunately, once benefits are stolen, they are not reimbursed.
If your SNAP benefits are stolen, report the theft immediately. File a police report to document the theft and assist with the ongoing investigation.
Ocean County Residents: Emergency Assistance Available
If you live in Ocean County and your February SNAP benefits were stolen, you may be eligible for emergency reimbursement funds through Tomchei Shabbos. To apply, send an email to info@tomchei.org with "SNAP Assistance Request" in the subject line.
How to Protect Your SNAP Benefits:
-
Keep Your Card Safe
- Store your card in a secure location
- Never share your PIN with anyone
- Do not write your PIN on your card or cardholder
- Do not carry your PIN with you in your purse where someone can find it
If someone else has access to your card and PIN and uses your benefits, your benefits will not be replaced.
-
Change Your PIN Regularly
- Visit NJFamiliesFirst.com
- Use the ConnectEBT app
- Call customer service at 1-800-997-3333
- Go to your County Social Service Agency
Update your PIN at least twice a month — a day before benefits are loaded and in the middle of the month.
-
Do Not Store Benefits on Your Card Use your SNAP benefits soon after they are deposited to reduce the risk of losing a large amount to fraud
