Protect Your SNAP Benefits from Scammers
If you receive SNAP (food stamp) benefits, be aware that scammers are actively targeting EBT cards to steal funds. This week alone, the LRRC fielded 25 calls about cases of stolen benefits. Unfortunately, once benefits are stolen, they are not reimbursed.
If your SNAP benefits are stolen, report the theft immediately. File a police report to document the theft and assist with the ongoing investigation.
How to Protect Your SNAP Benefits:
-
Change Your PIN Regularly - Update your PIN at least twice a month — a day before benefits are loaded and in the middle of the month.
-
Do Not Store Benefits on Your Card - Use your SNAP benefits soon after they are deposited to reduce the risk of losing a large amount to fraud.
-
Keep Your Card Safe - Store your card in a secure location and never share your PIN with anyone.
-
Consider Locking Your EBT Card When Not in Use
Using the ConnectEBT App:
- Open or download the ConnectEBT app.

- Lock your card to prevent unauthorized transactions.
- You can unlock your card anytime you need to use it.
